Making their home at the University of North Carolina (UNC), North Carolina Tar Heels athletics features some of the top athletic teams in the NCAA and the Atlantic Coast Conference, with both men's and women's varsity teams competing in 15 different sports. The UNC Chapel Hill campus is the flagship of the UNC system, winning over 42 team national championships in six different sports.

Carolina Tar Heels Football - The North Carolina Tar Heels football team has won 638 games, appearing in 27 bowl games, including the 2009 Meineke Car Care Bowl. As part of the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Tar Heels have won five conference championships and five championships in the Southern
Conference Championships.

UNC Men's Basketball - The North Carolina Tar Heels men's basketball team is one of the most successful college basketball teams in the country, appearing in 13 Southern Conference Championships, 43 ACC Championships, five NCAA Championships, and 18 Final Four challenges. The team won its first NCAA championship in 1957, and recent victories include national championship wins in 2005 and 2009 and the runners-up slot in the men's 2010 National Invitation Tournament.

Kenan Memorial Stadium - Home to the North Carolina Tar Heels football team, Kenan Memorial Stadium opened in 1927 with seating for 52,000 people, but was expanded to seat more than 60,000 over the years. Situated in a scenic cluster of pine trees near the center of the UNC campus, Kenan stadium has recently completed a major renovation that converted the stadium into a state-of-the-art sports facility housing a newly renovated stadium with club and luxury box seating, an academic center, an Olympic strength and conditioning center, and other athletic facilities. 

Dean E. Smith Center - The Dean E. Smith Center, known also as the Dean Dome, is a multi-use arena at UNC and home to the Chapel Hill Tar Heels men's basketball team. Opened in 1986, the arena originally held seats for 21,444 but was remodeled in 1992 and 2000 to include 21,750, making it the fifth largest college basketball arena in the country. In addition to basketball games, the Dean Smith Center hosts a range of concerts and is the site of the commencement ceremonies for the UNC School of Law, UNC undergraduate commencements and local high school graduations.
